Caledonia Skating Club – Programs 2011/2012
Please note that all dates and times are tentative until we receive our final ice schedule from Haldimand County.
PreCanskate
PreCanskate is a program with a shorter class time for those children who are too young for the Canskate program.
Time:
Mondays – 6:00 to 6:30 PM, starting Oct. 17th
or Tuesdays – 6:00 to 6:30 PM or 6:30 to 7:00 PM, starting Oct. 18th
or Saturdays – 11:30 – 12:00 PM or 12:00 to 12:30 PM, starting Oct. 8th.
20 weeks of instruction ending Mar. 31st (Carnival)
Age: Must be 3 years old by Dec. 31st of current skating year
Cost: $160 plus $32 Skate Canada membership fee plus $10 Carnival fee for 20 week session or $90 plus $32 Skate Canada fee for 10 week session.
Equipment: Hockey or figure skates may be worn. Hockey helmets are mandatory.
Canskate
Canskate is a fun, learn-to-skate program for children. It is run in a group format with instruction from Skate Canada professional coaches along with our program assistants. Skaters are awarded badges as they progress through the 7 levels of the program. Basic skating skills and technique are taught in a fun environment with games & theme days. Suitable for anyone who wishes to learn the basics of skating as well as anyone who wishes to go on to hockey, ringette, powerskating, or more competitive figure skating.
Time:
Mondays – 6:30 to 7:20 PM starting Oct. 17th,
or Tuesdays – 6:30 to 7:20 PM starting Oct. 18th
or Saturdays – 11:30 to 12:20 PM starting Oct. 8th.
20 weeks of instruction ending Mar. 31st (Carnival)
Age: Must be 4 years old by Dec. 31st of current skating year
Cost: $230 plus $32 Skate Canada membership fee plus $10 Carnival fee
Prerequisite: No previous skating experience is necessary.
Equipment: Hockey or figure skates may be worn. Hockey helmets are mandatory.
Junior Test
Junior Test is for skaters who wish a slightly more intensified program than Canskate with fewer skaters on the ice. This program is to aid the skaters with the transition from Canskate to Starskate (Private skating). It is conducted in a group format with badges to be earned as well as the basic progressions of Skills, Freeskate and Dance. Skaters are given a 30 minute group lesson with a Professional Coach plus 15 minutes of their own practice time. Practice books will be provided by the club.
Time:
Mondays – 5:30 to 6:15 pm, starting Oct. 17th
20 weeks of instruction PLUS one of the following options:
- Canskate group sessions – choice of Monday, Tuesday or Saturday for 20 weeks as noted above or
- One hour Junior Private session – choice of Monday,Wednesday, or Saturday – see private schedule for detailed times. In this option you must hire one of our private coaches to coach your skater during Junior private time.
Cost: See registration form, fees are subject to $32 Skate Canada fee.
Prerequisite: Must have passed Stage 3 badge.
Equipment: Figure skates are recommended for this program
Adult & Teen Skate
Designed for adults or teens who wish to learn to skate or who wish to improve their skating skills.
Time:
Wednesdays - 7:30 –to 8:20 PM, starting October 19th, 20 weeks of instruction.
Cost: $220 plus $32 Skate Canada membership fee.
Learn to Team Skate
This fun program is for skaters who wish to learn how to skate in synchronization with other skaters on their team.
Time:
Saturdays – 12:30 pm to 1:20 pm, for 20 weeks, starting Oct. 8th
Cost: $240.00 plus $32 Skate Canada membership fee plus $10 Carnival fee.
Prerequisite: Must have passed Stage 4 badge.
Semi-Private lessons
Any skater who is registered in one of our group programs may receive extra one-on-one instruction from one of our professional coaches. You have two options:
- Your skater may have a 10 min. lesson during the warm-up or cool-down portion of their regular group session. There is no extra charge by the Club for this, however you must pay your professional coach for the lesson each week.
- Your skater may pick up an extra hour of ice time during one of our Private skating sessions. Cost: $320.00, plus the cost of your lesson from a professional coach.
Private Skating – “StarSkate”
Any enthusiastic skater of any age who wants a more intensified program will be interested in this program. Skaters may choose from 1 to 3 days of skating per week and may eventually choose to compete or try Skate Canada tests. Skaters must have a Professional Coach and are responsible for those fees. Season starts Sept. 12th and ends Mar. 31st with the Carnival.

PrePowerskate
PrePower is run in a group format with emphasis on balance skills, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and agility skills. PrePower awards consist of ribbons for the three levels – A, B & C. Recommended for skaters who wish to go on to hockey or ringette.
Time:
Tuesdays – 5:40 to 6:30 PM, for 20 weeks, starting Oct. 18th
Cost: $250.00 plus $32 Skate Canada fee.
Prerequisite: Must have passed Canskate Stage 3 badge or already be able to skate forwards & backwards across the width of the ice or at coach’s discretion.
Equipment: Hockey skates, helmets (with face protection) hockey sticks not required, full equipment is optional.
CanPowerSkate
This powerskating program is designed for hockey or ringette players. It develops and improves your skater’s speed, endurance, agility & balance while emphasizing proper technique. Levels 1 & 2 will be offered for the Fall/Winter session. Instruction is provided by NCCP Level 3 Certified Coaches & Skate Canada Professional Coaches certified in the CanPowerskate program.
Time:
Tuesdays – 5:30 to 6:20 PM, 20 weeks, starting Oct. 18th
Cost: $250.00 plus $32 Skate Canada fee.
Prerequisite: Must be able to skate forwards & backwards across the length of the ice and be able to stop or have passed Pre-Power Level C.
Equipment: Hockey skates, helmets with face protection and hockey sticks as well as full equipment required.
Payment Information: A $50 non-refundable deposit is due upon registration. Balance must accompany deposit and may be post-dated (15th of Sept, Oct, Nov & Dec). Cash or cheques accepted. See registration forms for fundraising options, if applicable.

CSC Rules & Regulations
- All members will be supportive of the club and encourage a positive attitude towards the club and treat all members with respect, courtesy and consideration.
- Skaters will keep moving on the ice. Do not stand in groups in the middle or on the boards.
- Skaters having a lesson or doing their solos while their music is being played will be given the right of way on the ice. Show courtesy on the ice by NOT skating through a lesson being taught.
- Everyone is entitled to their solo once before additional requests are played. Solos may NOT be requested be skaters. Coaches request take priority.
- Ice surface doors MUST be kept closed for safety reasons.
- There will be no food or gum chewing on the ice. Only plastic drink containers are permitted.
- All skaters and coaches shall wear suitable skating attire. Nothing hanging below skates. Hair exceeding collar length must be tied back for safety reasons. Skate guards must be worn off the ice.
- The Caledonia Skating Club shall not be held responsible for any accident or injury, damage or loss of personal property. The club will not take responsibility for skaters left at the arena unattended.
- No CSC skater will be allowed to bring in another coach that is not registered with the Caledonia Skating Club.
- Skaters enrolled in Starskate programs (semi-private or private) must receive a minimum of one lesson per week from a coach contracted as a freelance coach with the CSC.
- Skaters may skate on another day other than their scheduled times, without paying a guest fee, for a lesson only. They may enter the ice surface 5 minutes before their lesson and must leave at the conclusion of the lesson.
- Coaches shall not give lessons on our ice to any skater who is not a member of the CSC without special permission from the executive.
- Maximum Starskate (private) skaters shall not exceed 24 on the ice at any one time.
- Guest skating by non-members of the club will be allowed on a limited basis upon payment and proof of current Skate Canada card before taking the ice. This will be dependent on the number of skaters on the ice at any one time. Fees must be paid to the music person prior to the session.
- The Club reserves the right to discipline any person who is found acting in a manner contrary to the best interest of the Club.
- All issues or concerns must be submitted to the Club Executive in writing and signed. Such issues shall be forwarded to and dealt with by the Disciplinary Committee.
- All skaters, coaches, members, executive, volunteers and parents will take responsibility for the behaviour of themselves and all individuals associated with them as outlined in the Haldimand County “For the Sake of Sport” policy
